About Leonore

I’m Leonore, a certified vegan nutritionist from Germany. I moved to vibrant Tokyo in 2014 after finishing my degree in Japanese studies at Frankfurt Goethe University.

You could say that I grew up “part-time vegetarian”. My father’s family has been vegetarian since before I was even born, so I too refrained from eating meat or fish when I visited them. This didn’t bother me at all, since I was never a big fan or eating fish or meat anyway.

I finally went from “part-time” to completely vegetarian in 2009. Having grown up in close proximity to healthy and happy vegetarians, I knew that getting all the nutrients I needed without fish and meat wouldn't be a problem.

Several years passed before I became aware that cruelty to animals was not limited to the production of fish and meat, and the egg and dairy industries also treat animals absolutely horribly. (If you want to know more about this topic, I recommend the Youtube/Netflix documentaries: Dominion, Earthlings, Cowspiracy and Seaspiracy). That's when I made the decision to go vegan.

Of course, this new lifestyle brought with it challenges, but I eventually learned how to navigate the Japanese supermarkets and find a variety of delicious and nutritious vegan options.

Up until my nutritionist studies in the Fall of 2019, I never engaged with nutrition from a scientific and health perspective. Like many, I tended to reach for what was convenient. I didn't really pay attention to eating a balanced diet and when I tried to be health-conscious, I would base my decision on questionable sources like magazines or non-scientific online articles.

Studying nutrition, especially from a plant-based perspective, taught me which nutrients are really important for the human body. I also discovered that consuming animal products is not a necessity in order to be healthy. Armed with this knowledge, I embarked on a wholesome plant-based and more conscientious diet.

I have not only lost weight in a healthy way, but my overall health has greatly improved, and my immune system is stronger than ever. I feel good in my skin, full of energy and vitality, and I would like nothing more than to share this amazing feeling with you.
